In 1955, production surged to 20000 tons. In 1972, the annual production reached 200000 tons. Titanium has a hardness similar to steel, and its weight is almost half that of bulk steel. Although titanium is slightly heavier than aluminum, its hardness is twice that of aluminum. Nowadays, a large amount of titanium is used to replace steel in space rockets and missiles. According to statistics, the annual use of titanium in the world has exceeded 1000 tons.
